Most Puppy Owners Make The Same Mistakes When It
Comes To Housebreaking A Puppy......Are You One Of Them?
Did you know that most
puppy owners make the same mistakes when
it
comes to potty
training puppies? Did you know that one of the main reasons that dog
owners take their dogs to shelters is because they could not get them
potty trained? We want you to keep your little fury friend where he
belongs...home with you! We will teach you proven techniques that give
you immediate results on housebreaking
a puppy.
Potty
training puppiesdo not have to be such an insurmountable
task. It takes the two P’s
– patience and
persistence – to make it all work. From
the very beginning you have to show your
puppy that you are
the
boss.
By nature, dogs travel in packs and are used
to having a
pack leader. So, if you don’t
put your foot down when it comes to housebreaking
a puppy, your puppy
may get
the upper hand. You certainly do not
want that to happen.
Basically,
what you want your
puppy to learn is how to “hold
it” when she is inside your house and when taken outside, to
go potty on the
same spot that you have designated for this to happen. You
must send clear and precise signals
to
your pup and she will eventually go potty because it makes you happy.

The next thing you must
decide is who is going to take part
in housebreaking
a puppy.
All of you are
going to have to be on the
same page and will have to be prepped as to how the
method of potty
training
puppies actually works. Remember to
be consistent, and repetition
will be the key to your success.
The best age to start potty training
puppies lies between 8 to 12
weeks old. If for some reason you got a
puppy that is younger than this, wait until the puppy reaches the above
age.
The next thing you are
going to have to do when housebreaking
a
puppy is come up
with some sort of schedule. A puppy
usually needs to go out every hour or two and especially after meals,
after
playtime, after naps, after waking up after nighttime and before going
to bed
at night. Now you can make a written
schedule of your puppy’s feedings, playtime as well as trips
made outside.
Make
sure you have the
mechanics of your routine in place. Decide which door you are
going to use, and
exactly where your puppy will use the bathroom in your yard.
Now you must get a collar and
leash and put
them on your puppy.
Note: We have a
section in the sidebar at the left that teaches puppyleash training.
The
biggest mistake
that most puppy owners make when potty training
puppies
is letting their puppy run freely through
the house. You do
not want your puppy out of your sight.
One
thing you can do is put your puppy on a leash and hook it
to your belt or belt loop. If you can't watch your puppy,
put him in his crate.
The key to housebreaking
a
puppy is always take him outside to potty on a leash. This
lets your puppy know that you are taking
her outside to potty and not to play.Take
your puppy directly to the spot where you want her to go potty.
Remember
that word
consistent?
Every
person on your team must do the same
thing or else poor puppy will get confused.
Upon reaching the spot for elimination give a
short verbal command to your puppy such as “Go
potty”.Then
when she begins to potty start
praising her to the skies.Keep
praising
her until she is finished and praise her some more.Pretty
soon she will begin to understand what
to do. Just remember that when housebreaking
a
puppy, you always use the same verbal command.
If your puppy does not go potty, then take her back inside
and try again in about a half an hour. After
she has done her business, you can play
with her all you want.
Have some dog treats handy so that after your puppy goes
potty you will be able to reward her by giving her a treat or two
OUTSIDE.Do not
give the treats inside.This
is very important when potty training
puppies
as you do not want to
give your puppy mixed signals.
Do
not leave food out for your puppy all day.
When
housebreaking
a puppy it is very important that
you have a schedule for feeding times. A puppy will eat three to four
times a day. You will want to leave fresh water out for her at all
times except for 2 hours before
bedtime. Pick up the food bowl after about 15 minutes of placing the
food bowl down, even if your puppy has not finished. About 15 minutes
after your puppy has ate, take your puppy out the designated door on a
leash to her potty spot. Keeping the same schedule and routine is very
important when it comes to potty training
puppies.
Consistency is the key to potty
training puppies. It is important that
you have a consistent routine and schedule. Housebreaking
a puppycan be achieved

a pretty impressive range of information packed into this guide. The
book starts off with new-owner advice (how to choose a puppy/dog, the
best places to get one from, breed information, puppy/dog-proofing your
home, the first vet visit, housetraining, etc) and then moves on to the
more advanced stuff: behavioral problems (such as aggression,
dominance, chewing, digging, excessive barking, separation anxiety, to
name a few), intermediate-level obedience commands, health-related dog
problems (allergies, dog coexistence, fleas, heatstroke, and
so on), and advanced commands and tricks.
